"Herbal plant also did much for the care of the teeth. A shrubby plant known as Pila (Tephrosin purpurea) is used to brush teeth. The root of this plant whitens the teeth and makes the gums stronger. Mohammedan writers say the pila is a holy plant and it is used for cleaning of the teeth. The pila leaves given in the form of canjee is very effective in cases of Jaundice."
